Here are the Cingular Settings using the $19.99 unlimited data MediaNet service or limited data MediaWorks.

Here ya go...all tested and work great!

MediaNet package connections on SMT 5600
1) Goto Data Connections
Start>Settings>More>Data Connections

2) Delete all existing connections so there is no chance of a conflict
Menu>Edit Connections>Proxy Connections>Menu>Delete>Done
GPRS Connections>Menu>Delete>Done

...repeat until all are gone. Click DONE

3) Next create a WAP/GPRS Connection
GPRS Connections>Menu>Add
Description: Cingular GPRS
Access Point: wap.cingular
Username:
Password: CINGULAR1
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP Address: <leave blank>

...click DONE...click DONE

4) Next you need to create a proxy connection that will point any program trying to access GPRS to WAP
Proxy Connections>Menu>Add
Description: MediaNet
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP Network
Proxy(name:port): wireless.cingular.com:80
Type: HTTP
Username: <leave blank>
Password: <leave blank>

...click DONE...DONE

5) On the Data Connections screen change the following to:
Internet Connection: Cingular GPRS
Work Connection: Automatic
WAP Connection: Cingular GPRS
Secure WAP connection: Automatic

...click DONE

6) Change your Internet Explorer Settings
Goto Internet Explorer>Menu>Options>Connections
Uncheck: Automatically detect settings
Select network: WAP Netowrk
...click DONE

7) Change your email settings
Whenever you create a new POP email account in Options>Account Setup
The Network should be set to WAP Network to be able to send/receive email

Cool Change MMS Settings
Start>Configurations>MMS Settings:

Check: Retrieve Immediately
No of attempts: 3
Connect Via: WAP Network
Photo Resolution: Original Resolution

Click Menu>MMSC Settings
Menu>New

Name: Cingular
MMSC URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com
WAP Gateway: 66.209.11.61
Port: 9201

...click Done
...click Menu>Set as Default

Turn off phone...back on again.
Everything works great!!!

Thank you, thank you.

I followed your directions on how to change over my unlocked SMT5600 from ATT to Cingular today.

It worked flawlessly.

Thank you for saving me many hours on the internet and on the phone with technical support.

Does anyone know what setting(s) I have to change for Messenger to work with MEdia Works?

I can access the internet with PIE
I can send receive text messages

But what I can't do is log into MSN Messenger. When I attempt to login I get the following Error message.

"Unable to connect. Verify that your dialup or proxy settings are correct, and try again."

Where do I change these settings for Messenger?

the Cingular Proxy should be like this:

3 Proxy Connections
Name: Cingular
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP Network
Proxy (name: port): wireless.cingular.com:80
Type: HTTP
User name:
Password: CINGULAR1

Hey encece, wondering if you have tried using a Pocket PC or a laptop and the Smartphone as the modem with your Cingular plan.

I am finding that a lot of Cingular users are running into trouble setting it up. Wondering if it is a setup issue or if Cingular is blocking dial up networking?

Thanks

The values should be the same for the V551, but the menu and screens will be different.

Since Smartphone Thoughts is devoted to Microsoft Smartphones; not sure if we have any V551 gurus. Smile It would save you time if you ask this question on a site like Howard Forums. Wink

Thank you so much, that did the trick. Very Happy (well, a little backtracking was also in order because in trying to get everything working I messed up a previously correct setting) Embarassed
