"HTC executives said the acquisition could help the company push its own-brand business in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region..High Tech Computer Corp (HTC, 宏達電), the world's biggest maker of handsets running on Microsoft Corp's operating system, yesterday announced that it was acquiring mobile phone brand Dopod International Corp (多普達), paving the way for the launch of its own-brand phones in Asia."

In case you weren't confused enough about which phones HTC makes here is some more potential confusion. Having owned several HTC devices I wonder what effect this may or may not have on quality, which I feel has slipped as of late. This will apparently only affect the Asian market.

Interesting. I'm not sure I agree with a lot of what HTC has been up to as of late. I don't think it was wise to launch the HTC brand in the consumer market. I think they ended up in the bad books with some of their customers. This just doesn't help either. It would have been better to sell under a different name, IMHO.
