http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/4602.html

"The long-anticipated and much-rumoured Mio 8390 smartphone made its official debut at a product launch held in Taiwan today, becoming the third product to be launched based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone platform. As MiTAC's second entry in the smartphone market, the tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz 8390 model makes a splash with a speedy processor and a broad feature set.

A clamshell phone, the Mio 8390 offers a monochrome external display for Caller ID purposes, complete with indicators for battery life and signal reception, as well as the ability to display the time. The 2.2" internal display cranks up the heat with 18-bit colour support, rendering the 8390 capable of displaying up to 262,144 colours."

It's a little light with only 16 Meg RAM, but that screen is going to be amazing. The article also mentions a price of $475 USD and a street date of early February. Check out page 2 and 3 of the linked article for some high-res pictures. I like the red face plate. Very Happy

Here's some more information that I gathered from the Mitac press release:

  • Windows Mobile 2003 software for smartphone
  • IntelR PXA262
  • tri-band phone
  • 40-polyphony ring tones
  • a screen that can display 260,000 colors
  • support for MP3 files as ring tones
  • Java MIDP 2.0 games with polyphonic sound and tactile feedback
  • extra-big 2.2" screen
  • a choice of dazzling silver and opulent red color schemes
  • 300K digital camera, with a zoom lens and adjustable focus and brightness, a four-shot burst mode, five-step zoom, and support for night photography
  • 16MB of usable memory

I didn't see anything about Bluetooth or SD, however; the press release did say "128MB memory card is utilized", so it sounds like it has some sort of expansion. Most likely it would be SD.

It also needs to be quad-band 850/900/1800/1900. Cingular and AT&T (soon to be one merged company) are rolling out 850 GSM nationwide and this phone can not take advantage of that.

That looks amazing. The paint has such a great shine to it. Needs Bluetooth. I'm still holding out hope that this phone and the VOQ have Bluetooth, and it's just the marketing people that left it off the spec sheet. Wink

Great looking phone.

Mio8390 really does not include Bluetooth and its SD slot is not SDIO supported. You don't even think to buy a Bluetooth SD Card and let it hang out at the phone.

In Taiwan, silver Mio8390 is been sold for a while. Suggested price is NT$15800, with 1:34, approximate to US$465.

The one thing why Mio8390 amazing is that you can use mp3 file for your ring tone. The music is so nice while others are calling you. Smile
