"It seems Microsoft almost completely stopped offering MSN Messenger to handset makers after carriers complained that the function undermined their revenue streams from voice and data transmissions. Microsoft had been quite active pitching MSN Messenger to handset makers, but carriers apparently stepped in to say they want the service to be an additional feature that they provide and collect revenues on."

Don't Panic! This only affects Java type phones. Smartphones we are assuming are excluded. It does illustrate, as if we didn't already know, that the carriers want every penny they can squeeze out of you.

Do panic, talks of making users pay for MSN have been going on for well over a year but it now seems to be real. Orange UK have pulled MSN from the M600...who knows what other devices will follow Confused

What?! You're not talking about how Microsoft moved the Messenger icon into the Pocket MSN, right? You're saying that there is no MSN on the device. That's just stupid. There are plenty of 3rd party applications. They don't stand a much of a chance but simply removing the application.

I don't have one to confirm it at the moment but i was told by a fellow reviewer that it deffinately does not have MSN and that it would need to be purchased as an add-on from M$.

I'll know more tomorrow as my colleague is also reviewing it.

So does this mean that Cingular does not charge me text messaging rates for IM using MSN Messenger on my 2125 (I have the unlimited data plan)?
