"While Panasonic brags about having the biggest (plasma display), Samsung crows about having the smallest, fastest and highest-capacity memory card, this one a 2GB MMCmicro device for cellphones, an alternative to microSD flash memory cards. The performance of these thumbnail-sized cards is impressive, too, at a 7.4MB per second read speed and a 7.1MB per second write speed."
Those of you excited about the new StarTrek phone (Dopod s300) will now have a 2GB MMCmicro card to drool over. Of course we are still waiting for the 1GB version to come out. The performance of this one is quite impressive and might be worth the wait.

OH YAY!
Another memory standard!
Are they really standards when there are so many "standards"?
Is it me or are SD cards and their bretheren starting to spin out of control like the Sony Memory stick?

Then people waiting for the Star Trek couldn't care less about MMCmicro. MMCmicro is a derivative of the Multi Media Card format, while MicroSD (aka Transflash) is a derivative of the Secure Digital format. If Star Trek uses MicroSD, MMCmicro is not compatible.

So you know for a fact it won't be compatable?

MMC is based on the same spec as SD but without the Secure part of things. Not many devices actually implement the secure side of things. So the MMC based cards should work just fine. Another side effect of dropping the secure part is that it is no longer a royality for Panasonic. So they should be a little cheaper - in theory.

Not necessary true. It's just like the RS-MMC mobile cards are not the same as mini SD cards. They're physically different. Don't know about the micro cards though.

Well, they are physcally different. Aside from the dimesnions being slightly different (MMCmicro 12X14X1.1mm vs MicroSD 12X14X1.1mm), the physical design has the "portion that bumps out" on opposite ends. This will physically prevent the media of one format being placed into the card reader of the other format.
