"Are you after the super-slim QTek 8500 ? Well, according to expansys.com this will be available on May 10th for £359.95. You can also get it at the USA site here for $569.95, although there's no release date on that site."
Since that post on CoolSmartphone, Expansys has added a date to the one on their US site. It's available starting May 13th. To add some more to this, it's also listed on Expansys's Canadian site with a May 13th availability for $704. Right now, I think I'm holding back a little and waiting to see what i-mate and the carriers do before I jump on a new phone. Is anyone here planning to grab a Star Trek as soon as they are available?

Not being a got to have it day one kind of guy, nor quite as impulsive as I used to be I will also await the hopeful i-Mate or carrier announcement.
As much as my hand is itching to buy it (and my ear buzzing from the poor MPX220 I have now) - I will hold off. I bought the MPX220 impulsively on day one. Wish I never did. I'll let someone else break the new horse in this time.

edit: Interesting they market it as:

Qtek 8500, the new ultra-light clamshell EDGE music phone.
|
Yea, I know it had the media buttons on the front, but never thought of it as a "music" phone. Not necessarily a label that has worked well for any other manufacturer yet.
another edit: The spare battery won't be available until June 29th - still only 750mAh - $34

i am fighting the pre-order urge w/ all my might...not sure which one of my alter egos will win this one, maybe the weekend will tell...dunno...
but i want one of these BAD. there is a distrubutor that frequents hofo that comes pretty highly recommend (madmonkeyboy) and he has indicated the US date from his supplier is May 15th, his price is the same as expansys...i'll be buying from him if i do buy...
tough call, kinda pricey, but even once it comes down, it'll still be in the $450 range I suspect. It is worth $100 extra, maybe...

I find the easiest way to fight my urge is to live vicariously through others that have less control of their urges.
BUY IT HYLTON, we fully support you buddy. Come on, you know you want one! Then, please, report back to here any problems and/or how much you love it.

Its being rumored that Cingular is looking at this phone right now, and will hopefully pick it up. With my premier discount, I can probably get it for less than $200 (gotta love upgrades 2x a year). Saving $300 by waiting and extending my contract by 6 months? Sure why not.
And, to everyone that is thinking "no way would I be BOUND to a contract" well think of it this way -
you can buy the phone new and pay $200 more for it....or get it on contract and save the $200. The early termination fee is only $175, saving you $25 (not even counting the TVM ) and its not even a sure thing that you'll cancel. So why not save the money up front, you still end up ahead even if you do cancel

Hi,
As my subject says, Do Not Trust Expansys! They tend to post dates that they can't meet! I suffered with them when I pre-ordered the Jam & had to cancel my order..
Eventhough I can't wait to lay my hands on this baby, I'll just have to wait for iMate to start offering this baby for better support in my region (ME)..
Good luck to you all in your quest!
