I had a reply back from DataViz:
"If you purchased within the past 30 days the upgrade is free, and if you purchased in the last 90 days the upgrade is $14.99. Also, the version 3 upgrade also includes a FREE update that will be released later in the year that will include full editing for Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2007 files (currently it's only Word and Excel viewing)."
I don't know the exact date I bought my copy, but it was as soon as the Smartphone version was released. The payment left my bank account 93 days ago.
I replied pointing out they were punishing the people who bought as soon as the software was released, as this falls just outside the period for the $14.99 fee, and that if I had any idea the addition of Office 2007 support justified a new release, I would have waited before buying. The cynic in me says this isn't an accident!
Don't expect I'll hear back (if I do get a 2nd reply) until next week, but I'll let you know if they offer anything. Somehow I doubt it.
I certainly think this is a very shoddy way of treating those of us that bought this product as soon as it was released.
Jason.

Exactly the reason I didn't buy. They would not entertain a price break for me, even though I have two palm versions......

I absolutely agree that $30 is a lot to pay, especially if you just bought version 2 a few months ago.
I have used Docs to go and the version of office that comes with WM6. D2G is definitely better at the editing and it can handle a password protected excel file, something that the WM6 Office can't do. This is critical for me. WM6 Office, on the other hand, is fine for viewing most files and will handle some minor editing, and there is a pretty simple workaround for the creating a new document issue. Either way, I haven't purchased D2G yet due to a bug in handling complicated lookup formulas. Hopefully this is fixed in the new version.
As far as the Office 2007 support...Can't you just save the file as an older version when you want to transfer it to your mobile device? I know that this is not a perfect solution but it seems like a workaround for awhile...

I spoke with one of the sales reps and he said that their policy has always been that between 0-31 days all upgrades are free and 31-90 are discounted. After 90 days are full price. One thing to mention. If you upgrade to version 3 with Office 2007 viewing support, they will have an update later in the summer to fully edit Office 2007 docs and that update will be free.

Then they need to change their policy. 90 days is NOT long enough......in fact, I think there should be some kind of discount if you have some previous version, or are changing platforms. I have spent a small fortune in "add-on" software for my pda's/smartphones over the last couple of years. Effectively these guys want full price for it, when you have already purchased from them? Most companies are much more reasonable than this.
On a side note, I was contacted via e-mail by them when this first came out on the Smartphone platform. It was about 10 days prior to WM6 being made public. They offered to sell it to me for $69.95!!!! Ha Ha. Sorry, but anyone who uses these tactics to sell their product, deserves bad karma - I won't buy from this company again, period.

I agree with you cinimod1000, I'm not advocating that I agree with their policy, as a matter of fact I don't - I was just stating the reply I received. To charge full price with what I consider to be a minor upgrade just after 3 months of introduction it ridiculous. A small fee only at best. By the way, I too noticed the $69.99 when it first came out and it quickly changed when the news that WM6 would have Office Mobile. If Office Mobile hadn't been included, I think I would've had to pay almost $70 clams. Can you imagine if they charged another $70 for the update? I think we all either need to call or email and complain about their policy. If they hear it enough, maybe they'll change it?

Funny you say that, I actually directed the person I spoke with to this site myself. I certainly don't think it would hurt to send another friendly link
