Anyone know if Cingular plans to upgrade the EDGE network to support higher speeds? I heard that EDGE is 135k and that Sprint's is 300-400k.

Those Sprint speeds are EVDO, which is a newer technology than EDGE. Cingular has their own high-speed network, based on UMTS technology, but it's only in a few cities. It probably won't be more broadly available until some time next year. Until then, EDGE is what's available.

Cingular calls their UMTS network "BroadbandConnect."
You can find a list of cities here:

Bear in mind that to take advantage of it, you'd need a device which supports UMTS on the 1900 MHz band. There are a few phones like this already available, but no WM Smartphones that I'm aware of.
