trakAxMobile Released for Windows Mobile Standard

"Free to download, trakAxPC offers a professional-standard studio for Windows desktops that enables the rapid creation of music and video content. Automatic beat-matching for seamless mixing, drag-and-drop editing, and extensive previewing capabilities are among the highlights of a product that allows its users to start producing original and exciting content in their first session. traxAxMobile brings similar intuitive and sophisticated creativity features to the mobile environment. Designed for an extensive range of Windows Mobile devices from leading manufacturers and network providers... Now not only can you enjoy video and audio entertainment on the move, you can also create it using a multimedia interface that scales perfectly to the small screen."

Well lets face it. Chances are we will not see this application win "Most Useful Windows Mobile Standard Application of the Year" award anytime soon, but it sure does look like fun. The best part is, form what I can tell, this is a free download! I know exactly what you're thinking, because it was the same exact thing I was thinking, "what's the catch?" Well it turns out if you really want to create content like a "pro" (and I use that word very loosely) on your favorite Windows Mobile handset, you have to purchase one of their 100 plus loop and sample packs which range anywhere from $1.99 to $5.99 and up. Judging from the video on their site, while this program does look fun and intriguing, video editing is a big enough pain in the rump without paying for the privilege of torturing yourself by doing it on a QVGA screen.

EDIT: There is a slight correction to this story. It turns out that trakAxMobile is not free. I was getting it confused with its desktop PC counterpart, trakAxPC, which would be the free version. While there is a free 7 day trail version of traxAxMobile if you would like to own the full version of this software, it is going to set you back a astounding $29.99! To think, I was complaining about the $5.99 price tag that comes on more than a few of their loop and sample packs...
