"An updated Beta version of DivX Mobile Player is now available for Windows Mobile 5.0+ and Symbian OS 9.0+. DivX Mobile Player version 0.91 offers a few improvements and some nifty new features."

The last few versions of DivX Mobile Player have shown a lot of promise as far as free DivX media players go. This new version of the DivX Mobile Player adds new features such as an option to disable thumbnail display, improved handling of corrupt video files, improved playback position memory and easier access for DivX Video-on-Demand playback. You can download the new version of DivX Mobile Player here.

CorePlayer Mobile Adds Support For Flash Files

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "Smartphone Software" @ 03:23 PM

"If you carry digital media files on your Windows Mobile or Palm handheld, there's a pretty good chance that you either have or have looked at CorePlayer Mobile at some point. You'll want to take another look, or a first look, because the long-time media player just added support for Adobe Flash. That doesn't mean you can view Flash-based vids in your mobile browser, but you can view .FLV files in the newest CorePlayer version, which is 1.2.4..."

Some of you on the forums have asked me in the past if CorePlayer was able to play FLV files. Well it looks like I have some good news for you! With the newest release of the CorePlayer media player you can now play Flash videos (FLV and F4V). It looks as though Flash video support is the only big feature in this release as everything else is just minor bugfixes. You can purchase CorePlayer from our affiliate store for $24.95

DivX Goes Windows Mobile with DivX Mobile

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "Smartphone Software" @ 07:00 PM

Not yet ready for place-shift video streaming but you have a bunch of DivX encoded movies on your HDD? Then it's time to download DivX new mobile player which was just released and which is called "DivX Mobile". Beside supporting Symbian S60 and UIQ, the new DivX Mobile player also supports Windows Mobile in all its flavors - from Windows Mobile 2003 and Second Edition Pocket PCs up to Windows Mobile 5.0 as well as Windows Mobile 6.0 (including Classic, Professional and Standard devices). DivX Mobile Player will try to play any video on any device, but playback performance will depend on the phone's processor speed (DivX recommends 200 MHz or faster).

When we first brought news of Divx Mobile to you guys a few months back I was incredibly excited. After spending about a day and a half testing videos with the player, that excitement turned into serious disappointment. Not much has changed since then. The player still has a few major bugs that keep me from using it full time on my Samsung Blackjack. One of the most major bugs is that it completely destroys my home screen after using it in full screen mode. The moment I close the application it looks as if someone just shoved all of the content on my home screen down a bit which causes me to have to restart my device to get everything back to normal. I'm not sure if this is just a Samsung Blackjack related bug or if it affects all Windows Mobile Standard users. If you do try this application out, proceed with caution!

Divx Mobile Player: How The Heck Did We Miss This Release?!

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "SOFTWARE" @ 02:32 PM

http://mobile.divx.com

During my lunch break today I was sitting around browsing the Internet and watching some streaming Divx videos on one of my favorite sites, Stage6. If you have never been to Stage6 before the best way to describe it would be YouTube for Divx users. I do not know how it happened, or why it happened, but somehow I got thrown to a sub-domain of Divx.com for mobile devices. Being the nosey person I was, I started browsing around and low and behold, I found out that Divx had quietly released a version of their Divx Player, dubbed Divx Mobile Player, onto the internet! The best part of this delicious find is that this program is 100% free!

If you are a Divx/Xvid user and would like to enjoy your media on the go without paying the outrageous price of most media players out there, then go check out Divx Mobile Player. You do have to sign up for a Stage6 account to download the application but I feel it is a small price to pay for such a juicy little gem! The program is still in release candidate phase, but so far I have been able to enjoy a couple of old Family Guy episodes I had laying around on my memory card as if I was watching them on my computer! :)

DivX Mobile Alpha Testing

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "NEWS" @ 11:00 AM

http://labs.divx.com/node/224?prima=mobile

"Welcome to DivX Mobile your solution for high quality video on your mobile phone. We are currently seeking people to join our Beta (okay Alpha in this case...) User program. We have a limited number of spots, so sign up now."

I'm glad to see a company as large as DivX developing programs for the Windows Mobile platform. While I love TCPMP, as I'm sure a lot of our readers do, there is just something a little alluring about a new video player. This is one Alpha product I will definitely put on my handset!

BetaPlayer: New DivX Player For Your Smartphone

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 04:00 AM

http://corecodec.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57

BetaPlayer is a new DivX player that supports Xvid and OGG/OGM, as well as optimizations for ATI Imageon chips (found in Toshiba Pocket PCs). BetaPlayer is also capable of playing higher bitrate files than PocketMVP. There is both a Smartphone and Pocket PC version available. Although there is no mention of which version of Smartphone OS is supported.

Has anyone tried this out?
