Motorola Needs Feedback From Moto Q Owners

Posted by Kris Kumar in "EVENT" @ 05:20 AM

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=497443830880

"Greetings, EverythingQ.com visitor! Thanks for helping us learn more about how you use your Q -- what accessories, functions and additional programs do you use? This survey consists of just six questions (although they are rather detailed), plus a chance to provide general feedback. It should only take a few minutes of your time. If you care to provide your e-mail address at the end, we will put you in a drawing for a free Motorola HT820 Stereo Bluetooth headset."

User submitted image

EverythingQ.com has teamed up with Motorola to organise this user experience survey. One lucky participant will win a Stereo Bluetooth headset. So what are you waiting for? If you are a Q user then take the short survey. We would also like to hear from the Q users about how their Q is doing. The Web world is filled with BlackJack, Dash and Vox chatter. We hear very little about the Q these days, hopefully the Moto Q 9h will change this soon. ;-)

3 to launch Windows Mobile X-Series with Moto Q9

Posted by Pete Paxton in "NEWS" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=254271

"Things are about to get interesting... 3 are about to hit the bigtime in the UK Windows Mobile market Our sources very close to 3 in the UK have confirmed that 3 are to have an EXCLUSIVE (at least initially) on the Motorola Q9 (aka Norman), and will be launching it as the first of a whole range of X-Series devices based on Windows Mobile! The Motorola Q9, pictured here, features Windows Mobile 6 standard Edition, a landscape QVGA screen, QWERTY keyboard, TI OMAP 2420 processor running de 325 Mhz, 96MB RAM and 256MB ROM (!), a 2 megapixel camera and microSD expansion. The Q9 will join the current Symbian X-Series devices, and will be offered with the usual X-Series flat(ish) rate data connections. Orange and T-Mobile, beware. In light of the 3 X-Series signature capabilities of Skype, Slingbox, Orb, Windows Live Messenger etc., it's clear the Q9 and other Windows Mobile devices are a perfect fit."

User submitted image

I've never actually heard of 3 but according to Modaco, it looks like they are going to get an exclusive on the Q9. I like this phone. It looks nice and has nice specs. What do you think? Is this what the original Q should have been?

Moto Q q9 is Now Moto Q 9h

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 05:30 AM

http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motoq9h/

User submitted image

When did this happen? :? When did Moto change the strange name of its upcoming Q q9 to an equally strange Q 9h? The good news is that the specifications haven't changed. This Windows Mobile 6 Standard device still features the fast 3.6 Mbps data speed thanks to the HSDPA support. I am sure that everyone is eagerly waiting for the news about its availability. While we are waiting for that news, how about we try to guess what the "Q 9h" stands for?

Moto Q q9 Photo Shoot on the::unwired

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 07:20 PM

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3738

"Unveiled during last year's 3GSM World Congress, during this years 3GSM World Congress Motorola finally announced the long awaited UMTS version of its Motorola Moto Q - the Motorola MOTO Q q9 which was again publicly previewed at this week's CTIA Wireless in Orlando, Florida. Running with Windows Mobile 6 Standard, this sleek and robust device is packed with power, functionality and offers a cool design that satisfies the appetite of gadget lovers, business professionals and even fashion conscious consumers."

User submitted image

Arne Hess over at the:unwired has managed to get his hands on the prototype version of the Motorola Q q9. I am not much of a fan of the name given by Moto for this smartphone. I believe Motorola was thinking - "the name is q9...Q q9," you know like - "the name is Bond...James Bond." :) But its sharp looks and dual tone body style will make anyone forget the silly name. Not only does this smartphone have awesome looks but this GSM device also sports UMTS and HSDPA. My heart was set on the HTC Vox (or the HTC Wings), but I think I might fall for the Q q9.

GSM Version of Moto Q Coming Soon

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 06:00 AM

http://phonearena.com/htmls/Motorola-Q-gets-GSM-version-and-a-successor--Motorola-Q2.-SCPL-phones-coming-article-a_1746.html

"In addition to the good-old Motorola Q, Verizon has been offering for months, the leaked financial document also gives some information about a few other Q-based ideas. All part of Motorolas Enterprice products, they will run on Windows Mobile Operating System. Motorola Q EDGE this is probably just a GSM/EDGE version of the well-known Q. It was announced together with the first Q and was supposed to be available a long time ago. Its specifications are the same as the Q, which Verizon carries, but its color is in black. Dont expect 3G here. The document mentions Motorola Q2 HSDPA and EV-DO. While we are willing to see both HSDPA and EV-DO in one device, we guess there will be just a couple of versions one for GSM and one for CDMA. Theres no information on what the specifications will be, but expect the devices to be announced during the 3GSM show."

User submitted image

It's been a long time coming, but it looks like the wait is almost over. Motorola appears to be set to announce a GSM version of the Qat the upcoming 3GSM conference. The real question is; Does anyone care? There are now 2 solid QWERTY based GSM devices in the Windows Mobile Smartphone market. Unless the Q manages to add WiFi or 3G, then the other devices will remain more feature rich and a bigger draw.

Sprint has released their version of the Motorola Q for sale on their website earlier this week. If you're on Sprint and have been waiting for a good Smartphone, then this is your time to act. ;) Check out the full unboxing video over at EverythingQ.com and tells us what you think. I like the black version better, but not enough to give up what I already have.

Moto Q Black Now Available on the Verizon Web Site

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 06:05 AM

Folks, if you didn't like the silver Q or if you are simply bored with your silver Q, then it is time for you to log in to the Verizon Web site. I don't think Verizon or Motorola have provided the details on the updates to the Q. The word on the street is that this new Q carries an updated software that not only fixes some problems but also improves battery life. :) Also, the new unit ships with a carrying case instead of a holster. So who has ordered one?

Amoi E70 Smartphone - An i-mate SPL / Moto SLVR Clone

Posted by Mike Temporale in "HARDWARE" @ 01:00 PM

http://mobile.yesky.com/mobilereview/395/2594895.shtml

It looks like i-mate's exclusive agreement, isn't so exclusive after all because the i-mate SPL can also be found in China as the Amoi E70 Smartphone. There's a review of the device posted on Yesky.com (in Chinese) or you can check out this thread over MoDaCo for a complete listing of the images. It looks like a great phone and I can't wait to get my hands on one for review. What a beauty. 8)

Push email from Visto on Moto Q

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "NEWS" @ 07:15 AM

http://www.msmobilenews.com/page/1307

"Visto Corporation, a leading global provider of secure push email, today announced the availability of its Visto Mobile(tm) push email service on the Motorola Q (MOTO Q), available exclusively to TELUS clients across Canada. The combination of Visto Mobile and the MOTO Q provides business workers with a highly stylised device that delivers instantaneous access to email, contacts, calendar and other critical business data."

This is great news for those that happen to be on the TELUS network... that is if you can afford to pay the monthly cost! I was just over at the TELUS site poking around and they have a data plan where you can get 500 emails a day for $100CAD a month! Just two days ago, our forum's American Smartphone users, were upset because we heard the unlimited Smartphone Connect plan from Cingular might jump to $29.99

Walt Mossberg: Smartphones Get Smarter, Moto Q and Palm Treo 700p Review

Posted by Kris Kumar in "ARTICLE" @ 07:30 AM

http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/solution-20060607.html

"The cellphone -- or, more accurately, the device formerly known as the cellphone -- is getting to be more and more like a little portable computer. High-end models, known as smartphones, can handle large volumes of email, complete with attachments; surf the Web at high speed; view and edit Microsoft Office documents; take decent pictures; and play back music and videos. To manage these laptop-like tasks, they come equipped with faster and faster processors; more and more internal memory; expansion slots for increasingly spacious memory cards; and small, but usable, keyboards, instead of mere phone keypads. We've been testing two new such phones. One, from Palm Inc., is an improved model of the Treo, which has long been our favorite smartphone. The other, an entirely new design from Motorola Inc., manages to pack most of the Treo's functionality into a much thinner and lighter body, at half the Treo's price."

User submitted image

Walt Mossberg reviews the two of the latest smart phone offerings, the Moto Q and the Palm Treo 700p side by side. I wish someone would do the Moto Q and BlackBerry comparison. Everyone seems to be talking about the Q being the BlackBerry killer but I don't think we have seen a review that compares the two. :? Getting back to Walt's review, I am waiting for the day when Walt will acknowledge Windows Mobile operating system as the best mobile platform and not call it clumsy.

Did You Order the Moto Q Today?

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 06:15 PM

http://www.vzwshop.com/buyq

Okay folks, can we get a show of hands please; who ordered the Moto Q today? I still cannot believe that Motorola and Verizon Wireless have released this Smartphone for an awesome price of $199, after an instant rebate of $100 for a 2 year contract. 8O If that was not enough, Verizon Wireless is offering free activation. The only catch is that you have to pay $79.99 every month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. In case you haven't placed your order, you can do it over here.

Samsung i320 & Moto Q Video From Israel TechEd

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 10:45 AM

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/smartphones/motorola-q-and-samsung-i320-video-175157.php

"Taken at Israel Tech Ed last week, the video shows off both the Motorola Q and the Samsung i-320. The Qs UI looks pretty responsive, and the screens quality is pretty good. The Samsungs keys also look interesting, with a BlackBerry-like dual purpose keys. Instead of horizontally dividing the keys, Samsung divided them vertically. Youll have to watch the video to see what we mean."

There isn't much Q news here. At least nothing that we haven't seen in past video's and pictures. However, this is the first video that I have seen of the new Samsung i320 - the Q-Wannabe. In my opinion, the i320 looks really nice. I like the dark case better than the silver look of the Q. Plus the screen just looks sharper, although that could just be the difference in lighting used for each video. I wish the i320 was coming to North America. At this point it's still a European focused Tri-band device. :(

Start Developing for Moto Q Today

Posted by Kris Kumar in "DEVELOPER" @ 07:45 AM

http://www.motocoder.com/motorola/template.jsp?filename=center_Q.html

Motorola has released a thirty page developer guide aimed at helping the developers find all the Moto Q related developer tips in one place. It is not a comprehensive document but is definitely a step in the right direction. It covers topics like emulator plug-in, Bluetooth programming, application signing and certification. The bulk of the document is focused on signing and certification, I wonder if Moto Q will be application locked. :? Looks like it will be. And I wish the document mentioned if the keys can be overridden programmatically.

So if you are a mobile application developer, head over to the MotoCoder web site, download the PDF based guide and register for updates.

Is Moto Q the Thinnest QWERTY Smartphone?

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2907

"I got a couple of E-Mails from you guys where most of you asked regarding the comparison between the lately announced Samsung SGH-i320 and the Motorola Q and here we go with some impressive (I think) shots between both devices which should gives you an even better overview how small the i320 is, while I wouldn't say at all that the Motorola Q is huge but it's interesting to see how small you can go"

User submitted image

Arne Hess over at the the::unwired has the answer and the proof. Hats off to the folks over at Samsung, for designing the i320 and challenging Motorola's claim. Even though I know that the Samsung i320 is not going to be launched in the US market, I would like to see Samsung launch the product before Motorola launches its Q. ;-)

CES 2006: Moto Q and TXTR in Pictures

Posted by Kris Kumar in "NEWS" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=5707

"The Motorola Q Windows Mobile Smartphone wasn't announced during the 2006 International CES - but it was here alright! The Motorola Q was spotted in the Motorola and Microsoft booths, and around the show floor. I also came close to it during the Urge party (a big party on Pure, Caesar's Palace to celebrate the Microsoft and MTV launch of their new Urge service). Enough said. Just look at these pictures - I wouldn't mind replacing my Telecom Apache for one of these new Motorola Q on CDMA..."

User submitted image

Check out the pictures of the Motorola Q and the TXTR, spotted at the CES 2006. I wonder what the last two icons in the most recently used list on the home screen stand for? :? And TXTR looks like the handy Bluetooth keypad we all have been waiting for. Since we are talking about Motorola and the CES 2006, I must mention that Motorola is planning to include a Google button on their web enabled phones to make searching easy. And that's not all, they will be partnering with Kodak to improve the camera phones.

Moto Q Preview on CNET.com

Posted by Kris Kumar in "ARTICLE" @ 05:00 AM

http://reviews.cnet.com/Motorola_Q/4505-6454_7-31473357-2.html?tag=tab

"One of the most highly anticipated smart phones on the horizon, the Motorola Q hopes to merge form with function in a supercompact and stylish design. Set for release in early 2006, the Motorola Q is some ways off from seeing the light of day. That said, based on the initial information we've received, we're excited about this product. Described as razor thin at 0.45 inches, a direct reference to Motorola's popular Razr V3, the Motorola Q will be one of the first smart phones to ship with Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. Since Windows Mobile 5.0 comes with support for Exchange 2003, Outlook information can be pushed to mobile products, which means the device is poised to take the smart-phone world by storm."

User submitted image

CNET.com has posted a review, well a preview of the Motorola Q. It seems like once again the main stream media has written up a review or a preview based on the press release information. Hopefully they will be posting the hands-on review soon. Though the article does not present any new information, I am sure everyone will appreciate the way in which they have summarized the upside, the downside and the outlook.

Will Moto Q Support the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

Posted by Kris Kumar in "THOUGHT" @ 04:15 AM

http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB112238270431996050,00-search.html?KEYWORDS=motorola&COLLECTION=wsjie/archive

"Motorola Inc. is launching a handset that aims to compete directly with the popular BlackBerry wireless email device. The Schaumburg, Ill., telecommunications-equipment company unveiled its new email device in the increasingly competitive field: a handset called the Q and equipped with a specialized keyboard and the style of the company's popular ultraslim RAZR cellphone. ... Motorola said it would seek other partners for the device. They could include RIM, which already has a licensing deal with Motorola for its BlackBerry software."

User submitted image

The recent Wall Street Journal news article [paid subscription required] on the Moto Q grabbed my attention. The article talks about a possible partnership deal with RIM that will enable Motorola to receive push E-Mail messages from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. 8O I think it would be a nice move if Motorola uses its license to support BES for push email. We all know that Microsoft Exchange has its limitations and BES has been adopted by more enterprises as the choice platform for email push. This way Motorola will not only have a cool device but will be able to offer it as a replacement to the existing RIM users. The question is whether RIM would want to partner with Motorola on a deal where it may get hit directly?

Check out these high-res pictures of Motorola's MPx100 and the Sagem myS-7. There is also a video on page 4 of the MPx100. (I haven't had a chance to view the video yet.) These devices look amazing. The Sagem is smaller than the MPx100!

Vicious Rumor Dept.: Moto MPx220 By Month's End

Posted by David McNamee in "NEWS" @ 05:28 PM

http://www.mpx200.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

Mobile Gadget News is reporting that Motorola customer service has confirmed the arrival of the MPx220 by the end of the month. According to the reprinted e-mail, AT&T Wireless will be the carrier offering this phone.

Hmmmm... when last we heard from the MPx220, it was a June time frame and then September for the UK. I'm not going to believe the MPx220 is released until I have one in my hands
