Get Seedpod Mobile Free, Offer Ends Today

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Smartphone Software" @ 10:47 AM

http://www.seeqpod.com/mobile/

"SeeqPod Mobile brings Playable SearchTM to Windows Mobile powered phones and devices (and the upcoming Windows App Marketplace). Now you can use SeeqPod's award-winning* Biomimetic Search & Discovery technology to find playable search results, and Wikipedia articles all from your phone! Get instant playable access to SeeqPod's ever-growing and daily updated archive of Featured PodLists! Experience it all with a wide variety of color themes and one of the most amazing and gorgeous media players ever, with changeable skins in a range of styles."

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure I've wrapped my brain around exactly what this program does - biomimetic search and discovery? It seems like a search engine that focuses on music, podcasts, video, and other forms of media content. Well, for this weekend only (so the offer ends today), the program is free rather than $9.95 USD. What the heck - grab it now and figure it out later. ;-) The software will work on any device running Windows Mobile 6 or higher, whether that's Windows Mobile Professional or Windows Mobile Standard (I suspect Classic is supported as well).

Pocket Podcasts - Freeware Podcast Aggregator for Windows Mobile Smartphones

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "Smartphone Software" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/...t-podcasts.html

"Pocket Podcasts brings a complete podcast client to Windows Mobile devices. Pocket Podcasts enables you to search, subscribe, and play back podcasts, all from your Windows Mobile Smartphone !"

If the lack of a Microsoft Zune or an Apple iPod is preventing you from getting your daily dose of podcast goodness, well than I have some great news for you! I was browsing around the other day and ran across this nifty freeware application called Pocket Podcasts. This open source application will allow you to subscribe to both video and audio podcasts feeds as well as download those episodes over Wi-Fi. I haven't had a chance to install this application and play with it yet, so I am unsure if you can download individual episodes over the air using your handsets data connection. Even if you cannot download over the air, Pocket Podcasts does include a desktop application that allows you to sync your podcasts to your Windows Mobile Standard device. If any of our podcast loving readers happen to give this application a try, report back and let us know how you like it!

Hubdog - Podcast, News & RSS Reader for the Smartphone

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 12:45 PM

http://www.hubdog.com/blog/?p=50

"More and more mobile users are opting for HubDog as their Personal Mobile Interface to Access their Favorite Content when and wherever they want. HubDog is finally available for Windows Mobile Smartphone and again, it is totally Free. With HubDog for Smartphone, search and view Video Podcast, TV Shows, Clips, Movies, Live Radio, Music Podcasts, Pictures, News across more than 40 000 mobile channels. HubDog is FREE, registration is optional"

This sounds pretty nice, but I couldn't find any screen shots of the app running on the 320x240 device. I'm always looking for new applications and ways to stay on top of my feeds and news reader items. So it's nice to see applications like these focusing on that. Has anyone installed this? Does it offer any sort of sync?

It's the Jason Dunn Show: Personal Blog Launched & Podcast Interview

Posted by Jason Dunn in "OFF-TOPIC" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.jasondunn.com/welcome-to-my-personal-blog-28

"So heres the funny thing about creating and running Web sites for a living (which is what I do): you end up having really high expectations for each site you launch, and you want everything to be perfectly in place before you launch. Lets take a brief inventory list here on this site. First, we have an easy to use CMS - WordPress, all set up and ready to rock as of two months ago. Check. Next, we have a killer template, courtesy of Mr. Darius Wey, finished more than a month ago. Check. My matching photo gallery template is also completed, as of two weeks ago. Check. So what was left? Nothing - yet somehow I was obsessing over the smallest details the way I do with a Thoughts Media site. Then I was reminded of a simple truth a few days ago: the entire reason Im launching this personal blog is to give myself a no-pressure, talk-about-whatever-I-want place that has no connection to my real job. So what the hell was I waiting for exactly? And here we go - launched!"

I've decided to launch a personal blog (with an awesome template - go Darius!), and all the reasons why are in my first post. It's more of a personal project than anything else, but if you enjoy my ranting here you may enjoy the blog. It also is the home to some really old projects that are entertaining to look at in retrospect. I also wanted to let you know about a podcast I did with Vincent Ferrari as part of his "Side Salad" podcast. It has nothing to do with vegetables (although I do say "you know" a lot, so seemingly I may have some form of brain damage) and everything to do with Thoughts Media, the sites I run with the great volunteers that help me, and some good discussion on all sorts of tech topics. I enjoy being a guest on podcasts, because it's a lot easier than doing one myself where I have to think up a lot of great questions to answer. ;-) And that concludes the Jason Dunn Show...back to your regular programming.

"We are thrilled to report that MobileTechRoundup (MoTR) is a finalist in the Best Mobile Podcast category of the Podcast Awards! The Podcast Awards are the biggest award competition honoring podcasts in a lot of different categories and we thank them for putting on such an awesome competition. They go out of their way to put on a top-notch competition and we are honored that our listeners nominated our show in such numbers to put us in the top 5 finalists in this category that represents hundreds (if not thousands) of podcasts. Voting begins at midnight on July 28th and runs through August 11th so get your votes in and see if we can get MoTR the top dog spot in the Best Mobile Podcast category. Kevin, Matt and I put a lot of work and love into producing the show and it is such a validation for all we do to make the finalist list. Wireless Etiquette Podcast with Jacqueline Whitmore

Posted by Jerry Raia in "CONTENT" @ 08:00 AM

http://podcast.sprint.com/1/1/2006/06/26/Wireless-Phone-Etiquette.html?page=comments&smm=y

"This show affects everyone. As we have come to love our brand new wireless devices and all their feature rich capabilities, weve let our own behavior get a little ahead of ourselvescaring more about anywhere communications and less about how that affects the people around us. Luckily, the technology thats enabled this behavior is providing us tools to help keep us in check. But we cant rely on the technology alone. We need to make behavioral adjustments."

This is for those of us that care about nothing except our devices. You know who I am talking about. The ones who get totally vapor locked with a stylus, or not as in the Smartphone camp, losing track of all the world around them. You know who you are! Come clean! Here is a podcast with tips for all you offenders.

Update on TinyThings Video Podcast

Posted by Mike Temporale in "DEVELOPER" @ 10:00 AM

http://neopoleon.com/tinythings/blogs/main/archive/category/1005.aspx

Back in December 2005 we linked to the brand new TinyThings Video podcast for Windows Mobile / Embedded developers produced by Rory Blyth. It's been a couple months, and I thought I should bring you up to speed on some of the new and cool stuff Rory has been doing on these podcasts. In Episode 2, Rory talks about getting started developing with the .NET CF for the Smartphone. Then in part 1 of Episode 4, he talks about using the Notification and Camera APIs, and this thing called Message Interception. This is great stuff for those of you looking to get your feet wet in the mobile development arena. 8)

Smartphone Show - Video Podcast Available Online

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 09:15 AM

http://www.smartphones-show.com/

"A television programme all about smartphones, but broadcast over the Internet. Think of it as a video podcast ('videocast'). Most people are now on broadband around the world and you should have no problems downloading each programme (around 40MB) and watching on your desktop, iPod or smartphone."

Each episode is about 20 minutes long and is available as a free Quicktime download. The show is focused on all smartphones and not just those based on Windows Mobile. Episode 4 and 5 will feature reviews of an Orange C600 and Treo 700w respectively. Give it a watch and let us know what you think.

Finding Great Podcast Content

Posted by Jason Dunn in "ARTICLE" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/articles/findpodcasts.mspx

"Audio broadcasts, spoken word and musical, have been available on the Internet for years, but the recent combination of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and audio files have made the process much simpler. When a site has an RSS feed, it means you can subscribe to the content if there's new content, you'll get a notification in your RSS reader (usually a software program, or a Web site). By wrapping an audio recording inside an RSS enclosure (special XML code), the RSS software knows it's audio or video content and will download it automatically to a location that you specify on your hard drive. Then, when you connect your Windows Mobile powered device, you can sync it to your device for listening or viewing. That's the basics of how it works though it's important to note that a lot of content can be viewed or listened to inside your browser as well. In fact, since I don't have a commute to work, I tend to access content like this in "real time" rather than downloading it onto a device."

I recently wrote an article for the Windows Mobile site on finding podcast content - it's aimed mostly at Windows Mobile devices, but the core article is useful to anyone looking to get into podcast listening.

Windows Mobile 5.0 Messaging and Security Podcast with Chris Hill and Mike Hall

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 01:00 PM

http://blogs.msdn.com/mikehall/archive/2005/06/21/431327.aspx

"Today I met with Chris Hill, since Chris lives one corridor away from me this isn't an isolated incident ! - but, today I had my Podcast gear fired up and Mic's pointed in Chris' general direction - we discussed Windows Mobile 5.0, the Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 (could we have made the name any longer!) which is also known as the Enterprise Feature Pack (or EFP) - we also discussed user features, enterprise/oem features, developer features and some other stuff that I can't remember now..."

What more can I say? Download the podcast here, and copy it to your Smartphone - or if you must, listen to it from your desktop. ;)
