Are you following the World Cup Cricket series? Or wish that you could fit in the World Cup series into your mobile lifestyle? Here is a solution for your Smartphone that will make it really easy and fun. Before I share with you the link for the application, I would like to ask the cricket lovers to post which team they think will win the World Cup this year? :) Also, if you have been using your Smartphone to track the games, which application or Web site are you using?

Mobile CricketCast is a service brought to you by Willow TV and Plusmo, with commentary from Cricinfo. It offers ball by ball commentary that refreshes automatically and live scorecards. I have used this application, and I am impressed by its design and features. Best of all, this application is FREE. Give it a try today. Few more screen shots after the break.

Track your Blood Pressure Using your Smartphone

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 02:15 PM

http://www.smartphone.net/smartphonethoughts/software_detail.asp?id=1636

"Measuring your blood pressure can help you and your doctor prevent or control hypertension and its many complications. Blood pressure readings in the doctor''s office may be higher than at other times. The use of home blood pressure monitors can more accurately measure one''s overall, or average, blood pressure level. We suggest that persons over age of 40 begin keeping a daily log of their blood pressure readings. Measuring your own pressure is neither expensive nor difficult. It''s a good idea to take readings at different times of day, in case there is a difference between morning and evening values. The Blood Pressure Tracker simplifies blood pressure and heart rate data logging. The software automatically saves systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and time of measurement."

I don't really have much knowledge in this area, but it sure sounds like a useful application. You can download a demo version, or purchase a license for $9.99 from our affiliate store.

Ilium Software Updates NewsBreak and Keep Track

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.iliumsoft.com

Ilium Software have just updated NewsBreak and Keep Track to version 1.1 and 2.1.3 respectively. For NewsBreak the update adds a Today screen plug-in (I think this is Pocket PC only :( ), custom images, Windows Mobile 5 support, and various other usability improvements. For Keep Track you'll find Windows Mobile 5 support and various other usability improvements.

Both of the upgrades are a free upgrade for existing customers. If you're not an existing customer and would like to be, you can purchase either application directly from the Ilium website.

Update: I just talked to David at Ilium, and he confirms that the homescreen plugin is available for the Smartphone too. I'll post a screen shot in the comments. Thanks for the heads up David! :D

The Blood Pressure Tracker simplifies blood pressure and heart rate data logging. The software automatically saves systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and time of measurement. In addition to being a convenient data logger the software is also a voluble tool for blood pressure longitudinal trends analysis. This longitudinal analysis may help you and your doctor decide on the best medicine and help adjust daily drug dosage."

CellTrack Beta: Track Your Location Using GSM Cell Tower Information

Posted by Kris Kumar in "SOFTWARE" @ 04:40 PM

http://celltrack.spv-developers.com

"CellTrack is free and open source utility for tracking the location of GSM cellular phones. Currently C500 smartphones running Windows Mobile are supported. A free CellTrack client can be downloaded and installed on your phone. This runs in the background and collects information on the GSM cell towers in your phone's vicinity. This information can be used to estimate the geographical location of your phone. The client can be configred to automatically perform certain actions when the phone location changes. For example, CellTrack can be configured to automatically switch your phone to silent when entering work, or to divert all calls to your home line when you are at home."

User submitted image

CellTrack is a software that can run on HTC Typhoon (C500/SP3i/SMT5600) based Smartphones and report your location using the GSM cell tower information. The beta version of this application does not have all the features implemented yet, but I love the concept and its potential. 8) You can configure this application to report your location information to the central cell tower database and soon you will be able to do cool things like displaying your current location on your blog, website, or forum signature. And one piece of advice, don't let your spouse find out about this application. ;-)

Using A Smartphone To Track A Marathon

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 05:26 AM

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2999

"Using their Bluetooth Heart monitor, Alive Technologies developed a platform to monitor the progress and physical condition of marathon runners. The systems captures information from a Bluetooth heart monitor and from a Bluetooth GPS, and feeds it into a Windows Mobile Smartphone."

This is some pretty wild stuff. Check out the post on GeekZone for more information and a nice diagram showing how all this stuff connects. What are the chances we could strap this on Lance Armstrong?

Update: On a totaly unrelated note... This post was number 1024 for me. :D Geeks Rule!

Track Your Golf Game Using IntelliGolf For Your Smartphone

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 09:30 AM

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20040406005452&newsLang=en

"Karrier Communications, leaders in sports enhancing software, today announced its new IntelliGolf(R) golf scoring software for Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) Windows Mobile-based Smartphones. The IntelliGolf software includes all 7 S's of golf: Scoring, Shot tracking, 30+ Sidegames, 250+ Statistics, 18,500+ Signature courses, Sharing of information, and Satellite GPS. Now golfers will be able to track scores, shots, wagers, and statistics 'on course' using their Windows Mobile-based Smartphone. Add on a GPS receiver and IntelliGolf users will be able to accurately view distances from tee-to-green using its latest IntelliGPS(TM) technology. SRP: $29.95/$39.95. Shipments will begin the end of April."

Most golfers I know are nuts about this kind of stuff and will buy almost anything that could help give them a little edge over others. In my opinion, unless you are a professional or really close to it, this is a little over the top. However, the GPS plug-in is kind of cool.

I've heard a few people complaining about the lack of financial programs for the Smartphone, so Ilium must have been listening!

New York Times: "How Tiny Swiss Cellphone Chips Helped Track Global Terror Web"

Posted by Jason Dunn in "NEWS" @ 04:16 PM

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/04/international/europe/04PHON.html?ei=5007&en=71c64fa22f23d30a&ex=1393736400&partner=USERLAND&pagewanted=all&position=

"The terrorism investigation code-named Mont Blanc began almost by accident in April 2002, when authorities intercepted a cellphone call that lasted less than a minute and involved not a single word of conversation. Investigators, suspicious that the call was a signal between terrorists, followed the trail first to one terror suspect, then to others, and eventually to terror cells on three continents.

What tied them together was a computer chip smaller than a fingernail. But before the investigation wound down in recent weeks, its global net caught dozens of suspected Qaeda members and disrupted at least three planned attacks in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, according to counterterrorism and intelligence officials in Europe and the United States."

Amazing stuff - give it a read.

@Sat puts the wonder of space in the palm of your hand. Designed with simplicity in mind, @Sat makes it easy to track and display real-time trajectories of spacecraft such as the International Space Station, the Hubble Telescope, the Shuttle, and the Mars Rovers. Download the latest images from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Mars Rovers Missions and keep up to date on the latest space exploration headlines.
