HTC Star Trek Multiple Line Tweak

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=242936

For all of you that managed to get your hands on HTCs latest Smartphone marvel, the Star Trek, you might be interested in this new registry tweak that allows you to easily toggle between lines.

Done

Press and Hold # to switch between Line 1 and Line 2

I made the registry change on my SP5m, but I don't have multiple lines, so I can't say if it worked or not. Does anyone else want to give it a try and report back? Note: Standard registry editing warning applies. One wrong move and you could be looking at a hard reset for your device. ;)

Full Screen Video in Windows Media Player Tweak

Posted by Jerry Raia in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=3683

"Heres a great tip for us Smartphone users. This will let video play in full screen in Windows Media Player"

I love tweaks. Here is one for Media Player fans. As always, be aware of the risks and do a backup if you can before you try these kinds of things. I of course try most tweaks without backups, but that's just me.

Smartphone ListUI Tweak

Posted by Jerry Raia in "SOFTWARE" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=248

"I learned about this minutes ago while waiting for power resumption. No backup battery for my notebook, no UPS for the modem therefore no internet access how frustrating! Good thing I had my phone to tinker with. 9 hours of power failure was not in vain. Why? Because theres a new find! Here it is"

This looked interesting at first glance but then why would you want to loose the ability to use 1-9 to pick a program out of the list. Using this hack you would now have to scroll to the program you want. Anyone want to try this?

A Little Tweak Here And There

Posted by Jerry Raia in "ARTICLE" @ 01:00 PM

http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=668

"The ability to customize your Smartphone is one advantage Windows Mobile has over other phones. From customizing the homescreen to hacking the system to get it working the way you want, Windows Mobile gives you the freedom you need. Unfortunately doing these things isn't as easy to do as one might like. Luckily there are savvy program developers out there willing to help with this. Tweak2K2 .NET is aiming to help with some common hacks for the Smartphone. Tweak2K2 .NET should be familiar to anyone who's used the Pocket PC version."

If you haven't checked this application out yet you should. Here is a nice review of it with lots of screen shots. Go read it now! 8)

Tweak Your Smartphone From Your PC With Smartione

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 12:30 PM

http://metropical.free.fr/forum/index.php?showtopic=6

Smartione is a very nice little application that allows you to tweak and configure your Smartphone from your PC. Smartione allows you to view system information, transfer images and video, convert RSS feeds to HTML, edit your phones registry, explore databases, tweak various aspects of the interface, and organize your start menu, all from your PC. :) The Google translaction can be found here, since the original site is in French.

Encece was kind enough to supply us with a number of screenshots showing off the application and it's many features, but the pictures are a little too wide for the front page, and when I resize them you can't make out much of anything. As such, I have posted these in the thread. Check them out, and let us know what you think!

Simple Tweak To Boost Internet Speed On Verizon i600

Posted by Kris Kumar in "SOFTWARE" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=40813

"Oh yeah, you're right. I was getting 11kbps before, and now I'm getting 93kbps. That's a 9x increase."

8O

That's what ChrisWalker said after trying out the tip posted by our reader Bugwart. I don't have an i600 to verify the speed boost, but it's definitely worth a shot. Please post your results in the original thread. And don't forget to thank Bugwart for figuring this out.

Tweak: Change the Start Menu Order

Posted by David McNamee in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 06:30 AM

The following tweak involves editing your Smartphone's registry. Improperly editing values in the registry could cause unexpected behavior or cause the Smartphone to stop working. For more information on editing the registry, see this post. This tweak is provided as is, with no guarantees as to its effectiveness, or to the safety of using this tweak.

Change the Start Menu Order.
Instructions provided by Jonny Midnight

Purpose
The programs listed in the Smartphone's Start Menu are in alphabetical order - except for the first few that are fixed by either Microsoft or the service provider. Since it might be nice to have the programs listed in an order in the order in which you'd likely use them, we provide this tweak.

Instructions
  • Open up Regedit, and browse to the following:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMenu
  • Select 'Values'
  • Select 'Order'
  • In the value data you can now change the order of the links in the start menu. The easier way to find the link names is to open up All Explorer, Smartexplorer, or even browse to the phone via the computer, and look at the files in '\IPSM\Windows\Start Menu'. Don't forget to add '.lnk' at the end of the program name, or it won't work.

If you want any of your own custom links, just make sure you put them in the \IPSM\Windows\Start Menu folder.

  • Now you must reboot your phone for the changes to take effect.

Tweak: Change Your Phone's Name

Posted by David McNamee in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 07:30 AM

The following tweak involves editing your Smartphone's registry. Improperly editing values in the registry could cause unexpected behavior or cause the Smartphone to stop working. For more information on editing the registry, see this post. This tweak is provided as is, with no guarantees as to its effectiveness, or to the safety of using this tweak.

Change the name used to identify your Smartphone.
Instructions provided by Jonny Midnight

Purpose
The Smartphone's name is used by ActiveSync to establish and manage a partnership. Each device that establishes a partnership with a PC must have a unique name. If you synchronize multiple Smartphones with a single PC, it will be necessary to change the name of at least one of those devices. ActiveSync will prompt you to change a device name when attempting to connect to a Smartphone that has the same name as a device already partnered with that PC. If you do not change the device name in this manner, you will need to perform the following tweak.

Instructions
  • Open the registry and find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Ident
  • Select 'Values'
  • Select 'Name'
  • Change the value in the 'Name' key to the new name for your Smartphone
Note that there may be two 'Name' keys. Editing either of them will cause the device name to change.
