Introduction to Connected Applications with Windows Mobile 6

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "Smartphone Talk" @ 02:58 PM

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...nectedapps.mspx

"Did you know that there is an Encarta encyclopedia bot that you can talk to on Windows Live Messenger? That’s just one of the tips I wrote about in this new article on Microsoft.com’s Windows Mobile website area."

Todd Ogasawara has posted some fantastic tips and tricks on the Windows Mobile site. I had no idea that you could chat with an encyclopedia bot on Windows Live Messenger. Usually for some basic information like currency conversions, weather data, and even transit times - I use Google based web services. To read about other handy applications that can be used to keep yourself connected to the digital world, head on over to read Todd's article!

Ilium Software Updates NewsBreak and Keep Track

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SOFTWARE" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.iliumsoft.com

Ilium Software have just updated NewsBreak and Keep Track to version 1.1 and 2.1.3 respectively. For NewsBreak the update adds a Today screen plug-in (I think this is Pocket PC only :( ), custom images, Windows Mobile 5 support, and various other usability improvements. For Keep Track you'll find Windows Mobile 5 support and various other usability improvements.

Both of the upgrades are a free upgrade for existing customers. If you're not an existing customer and would like to be, you can purchase either application directly from the Ilium website.

Update: I just talked to David at Ilium, and he confirms that the homescreen plugin is available for the Smartphone too. I'll post a screen shot in the comments. Thanks for the heads up David! :D

NewsBreak - 40% Off!

Posted by Jerry Raia in "SOFTWARE" @ 06:00 PM

http://www.pdaoffers.com/index.php?page=viewoffer&id=50

"Help us celebrate our Handango Best Product award with this special promotion! Get NewsBreak for the special low price of just 14.95! Keep track of everything from the weather, latest headlines and news briefs, to the newest posts on your favorite Web logs and online stores. NewsBreak from Ilium Software is the easiest to use RSS newsreader for your Pocket PC."

I've quoted what they posted but the price above and the price you see on the link are wrong. When you actually click on "buy" and use the discount code you get $14.95 - $6.00 discount = $8.95 as the actual price (40% off). This is a great price for this RSS reader. I run it on both my Pocket PC and my Smartphone.

Free NewsBreak Lite RSS Feed Reader for Pocket PC and Smartphone

Posted by Jerry Raia in "SOFTWARE" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=4558

"Geekzone and Ilium Software teamed to offer an incredible offer: a free NewsBreak Lite RSS feed reader for your Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone. RSS is a technology that allows web site publishers to make their content available through a syndicated feed that users can elect to receive. Users can then view the feed with the help of a RSS feed reader, like NewsBreak Lite. Using RSS, users can receive the most up-to-date information, delivered to them in their RSS reader."

Now who can argue with free? We have talked about this software before here and now you can have a lite version. It is limited to 5 feeds but if you have been thinking about trying this now you can.

Geekzone Reviews NewsBreak

Posted by marlof in "ARTICLE" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=3918

We already posted on the release of NewsBreak, the RSS feedreader by Ilium Software. Geekzone has published an overview of this product, with tons of screenshot. Their conclusion: although there still is room for improvement, NewsBreak is a great addition to their Smartphone. And I can only agree with that, I just love it!

Ilium Software Releases NewsBreak

Posted by marlof in "SOFTWARE" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/nw/newsbreak.htm

My favorite RSS feedreader on my Pocket PC is NewsBreak by Ilium Software. Not only does the application look very polished, it also keeps you informed about topics you're really interested in by defining keywords and setting notifications. If that is not enough, NewsBreak checks if your device is connected to the internet (including the passthrough connection when you perform an Activesync), and will update its channels through any such connection. I knew they were working on a Smartphone release and I was very anxious to see how well the application would port to the smaller screen estate. And I was not disappointed. I was not disappointed at all. One of my gripes with my Smartphone is solved: I now have a good way to keep up with my newsfeeds! Ilium Software has a 30-day trial version available, and if you like it: for a limited time you can get NewsBreak for $14.95 ($5.00 off the regular price).
