"British wireless operator Vodafone is seriously considering making a $40 billion cash offer to acquire AT&T Wireless, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported Monday. The newspaper quoted an unnamed Vodafone director in its Sunday editions saying the chances were about 55 percent that Vodafone would go ahead with the offer.

"I don't think we'll decide till the last possible moment," the newspaper quoted one Vodafone director as saying. "I would say the odds are 55 per cent in favor of us going ahead." A spokesman for Vodafone was quoted by the newspaper Monday as saying only that the company was exploring all options in regard to the acquisition of the U.S. carrier."
