HTC Shadow 2009: Unboxing and First Impressions

Posted by Jason Dunn in "HTC-based Microsoft Smartphones" @ 08:00 AM

This is an unboxing and first impressions video of the 2009 version of the T-Mobile Shadow, a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard smartphone (non-touch screen). The T-Mobile Shadow is in its second incarnation, but this model is similar to the previous version. It features a 260 Mhz CPU, 128 MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM, and a 2.6 inch screen with 240 x 320 (QVGA resolution), and built-in 802.11b/g WiFi. There's no GPS, but it does have Bluetooth. It's a quad-band GSM phone, with GPRS/EDGE speeds for data - no 3G here. It has a built-in 2 megapixel camera, but no flash, and weighs in at 5.3 ounces. You can read the review of this phone in an article I wrote for Microsoft.

Unboxing and First Impressions of the T-Mobile Shadow

Posted by Jason Dunn in "HTC-based Microsoft Smartphones" @ 10:49 AM

This is an unboxing and first impressions video of the T-Mobile Shadow. Although the T-Mobile Shadow isn't a brand new device, it's still a current model being sold so when I was given the opportunity to take a look at one I said yes. It runs Windows Mobile Standard 6, meaning it's a non-touch screen phone. With a slide-out keypad and 128 MB of RAM (along with a microSD card slot) it's one of the more powerful Windows Mobile Standard smartphones on the market today.

T-Mobile HTC Shadow Finally Emerges Looking Damn Good

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "Smartphone News" @ 01:01 PM

"The long-rumored T-Mobile Shadow (aka Juno) officially launches now. It hits stores Wednesday for $200 with voice-plan or $150 with $20-per-month unlimited data plan. (Both require two year contracts.) With it, T-Mobile and HTC have done the impossible: they have made Windows Mobile look good. Great even. Like other WM6 devices including Sprint's recently launched HTC Touch and Verizon's Motorola Q9m, it has an interface skin that shields the user from the immediate effects of the Windows Mobile UI. But unlike those other two, this one goes a little deeper, letting you do quite a bit without ever seeing Windows Mobile."

Mark your calendar folks! It looks like Wednesday is the official date for us to be able to purchase T-Mobile and HTC's latest offering to the Smartphone/Standard world. With the upcoming release of the Motorola Q9h as well as the recent releases of the Pantech Duo and this slick new handset, the T-Mobile Shadow, I feel like my head is going to explode trying to decide which handset I am going to carry for the next few months. This is an exciting time to be a Windows Mobile user. What makes this even more exciting is that the carriers and device manufactures' are finally doing something about the incredibly ugly user interface that Microsoft was so king to leave us with. If you ask me, it's about time too. This is something that Microsoft should have fixed years ago!
