Apples to Apples Comparison of the "Big Four" U.S. Wireless Providers' Calling Plans

Posted by Jerry Raia in "OFF-TOPIC" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.thewirelessreport.com/2006/02/13/apples-to-apples-comparison-of-the-big-four-u-s-wireless-prov/

"For those who have become confused and bewildered before when attempting to compare wireless and calling plans from several companies, we would like to help a bit by giving you a real-world, typical-scenario comparison of the big four wireless companies in the U.S. In this feature, we will compare, as apples-to-apples as we can, an example of what an individual customer (you) could use to compare when shopping around for a post-paid (monthly) wireless plan."

Here is a snapshot of the big guys plans. I use the word "snapshot" deliberately because the plans have probably already changed. Every once in a while I call my carrier (Cingular) to see what's new plan wise. Occasionally a better plan has popped up that I can take advantage of.

T-Mobile Follows Cingular in Attempt to Stop Sale of Calling History

Posted by Mike Temporale in "OFF-TOPIC" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=1960

"Following the example set by rival company Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile has filed suit against Locatecell.com under Washington State criminal profiteering laws. The suit, filed in the King County, Washington, Superior Court, seeks an injunction to stop Locatecell.com, as well as related individuals and companies, from engaging in the selling of individual's call records which T-Mobile alleges it has obtained illegally."

We've talked about this in the past. Things change pretty quick, because now we have suits filed by multiple carriers in an attempt to help protect your privacy - as they should. But my question is; How did these guys get the call history information anyway? Are these guys just grabbing openly available information and selling it, or are they hacking into the carriers system and stealing your data? Curious minds want to know!

Calling Managed Code from Native Application

Posted by Kris Kumar in "DEVELOPER" @ 05:45 AM

http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/09/06/461805.aspx

"A question that always pops up is "Can I call managed code from my native process?" And the answer was always "no". Sure, you could create a window and pass window messages between a native process and a managed process, but that's a pretty limited solution, and not a rich programming model. So I wrote a tool to let you do it. It's called Mirror and the source and binaries are available on http://windowsmobile.members.winisp.net/Interop.zip. Here's how it works. You write a managed assembly that you want to be callable from native code. You'll have to restrict yourself somewhat when it comes to what language features you can use, because Mirror doesn't support everything. But it won't feel too constricting: you can use constructors, methods, properties and indexers. And as for what types you can pass around, you can use all the primitive types (ints, bools, etc.), along with strings and enums. You can even pass around instances of your own classes, as long as the classes themselves are Mirror-compatible."

Jason Fuller has made the impossible possible. :-) If you are one of those developers who has the unique need to call into the managed code from the native code (C++), then Jason has a solution for you.

Our very own Kris_Kumar has released CCDialer Version 1.5. The application will store your calling card number and pin along with frequently dialed long distance numbers. Allowing you to quickly and easily dial those numbers while saving money.
