Verizon Keeps Its Customers Happy

Posted by Kris Kumar in "NEWS" @ 05:30 AM

"Complaint data obtained by Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports and ConsumerReports.org, from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) show that Cingular and AT&T, which combined last year to form the nation's largest wireless phone company, have the worst combined complaint record for 2004. AT&T alone has had the worst complaint record two years running. ... If you're considering a change of wireless carrier, you may want to look first to Verizon. It had the lowest number of complaints per customer among national carriers, and among all the carriers, relatively few complaints about service quality and billing."

It doesn't look like Cingular has started benefiting from the AT&T Wireless deal. According to the complaint data, Cingular had the worst complaint record in 2004, Verizon did the best. I was surprised to see T-Mobile in the same neighborhood as Cingular. :? It's time for a quick poll and rank our wireless carriers.

AT&T Keeps A Copy Of Your SMS Messages

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 11:00 AM

"Responding to our post the other day about how AT&T Wireless keeps an archive of every text message sent by its subscribers, the guy who designed and implemented the SMS text messaging systems for Sprint and a large part of what is now Cingular gave us the scoop on how both carriers offer considerably more privacy than AT&T Wireless: While the Sprint system is MUCH more sophisticated and does retain some data for a long time (billing and usage info, and similar) neither of these systems retain the actual content of SMS messages."

Holy privacy concerns Batman! 8O And to think, people are up-in-arms over Google's proposal to keep your email. At least they told you about it. AT&T has been keeping your personal messages and you didn't even know. :?

MPx200 Smartphone Keeps Things Simple

Posted by Robert Levy in "THOUGHT" @ 09:56 PM

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A40645-2003Dec6.html

Here's yet another positive review of the MPx200. This one comes from Rob Pegoraro of the Washington Post:

"The awkward truth about handheld organizers is that many people operate them in read-only mode: They ignore the handwriting-recognition software or miniature keyboards on Palm or Pocket PC handhelds and enter data only when they synchronize these gadgets with their computers.

The awkward truth about Internet-connected phones, meanwhile, is that most people don't want always-on access: Instead of a BlackBerry buzzing with new e-mail every few minutes, they would just like the option to check their inbox every now and then.

The Motorola MPx200, the first cell phone available in the United States with Microsoft's "Smartphone 2002" Pocket PC software, must have been built with those truths in mind."
