Pocket Podcasts - Freeware Podcast Aggregator for Windows Mobile Smartphones

If the lack of a Microsoft Zune or an Apple iPod is preventing you from getting your daily dose of podcast goodness, well than I have some great news for you! I was browsing around the other day and ran across this nifty freeware application called Pocket Podcasts. This open source application will allow you to subscribe to both video and audio podcasts feeds as well as download those episodes over Wi-Fi. I haven't had a chance to install this application and play with it yet, so I am unsure if you can download individual episodes over the air using your handsets data connection. Even if you cannot download over the air, Pocket Podcasts does include a desktop application that allows you to sync your podcasts to your Windows Mobile Standard device. If any of our podcast loving readers happen to give this application a try, report back and let us know how you like it!

Looks like a very interesting piece of software. I have heard the new SP5(m) firmware has a lot of these features built in but from the looks of the image on the site, it seems this was tailored to bring those features to users of the WM2003 operating system and since it is freeware I'm sure this will make a nice edition to anyone's Smartphone toolbox :)

Smoresoft has released a pretty nice looking freeware version of Sudoku for the Smartphone. It features support for low and high resolution devices, along with square screen support, pencil marks (multiple styles), create your own puzzles, and auto-save. It also runs on Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0 based devices. :D

I haven't done much video on my device despite the efforts of some of you to make it super easy for me. ;) This looks like the easiest of all solutions that I have seen. I have yet to install it and give it a go, but it's on my list. If any of you beat me to it, please let us know your thoughts. :D

Freeware Helper Applications from Mike Calligaro

I don't know about you, but I like to try and relax on my vacation days. Not that I get very many of those. :( Mike Calligaro, on the other hand, likes to code. He's created 4 free helper applications for your Windows Mobile device. The first one, ToggleBth will toggle your Bluetooth on or off. Nightly will automatically shut off your phone at night. CincoSP is a text based game, and RPNCalc is a Reverse Polish Notation style calculator. All are pretty handy applications, especially given the price. ;) You can find more information over on the Windows Mobile Team Blog.

While the latest version of SPPicViewer fixes a bug with viewing images stored on the storage card, the biggest change is the price. It's now free. So, if you've been looking for a affordable imaging viewing application, may I suggest you try SPPicViewer. 8)

New Freeware - RJV DateCalc for Smartphone 2003

Rey J. Vegafria has developed another useful freeware application, the SMS Scheduler. I had been looking for an SMS Scheduling application for playing a prank on my friend. ;-) Now I will be able to carry it out, thanks RJV. Check out this freeware. It comes in two versions, one for the Smartphone 2002 and the other for Smartphone 2003.

RJV Clock features a Digital Clock, Stop Watch, Lap Timer, Countdown Timers, and replaceable sound files. A version is available for both 2002 and 2003 devices. However, the creator indicates that it might run very slow on a 2002 device! It seems like a pretty decent application for the price. Since I no longer have my Timex Ironman watch, this looks like it would make a nice replacement. :D
