Cingular Will Raise Its Text Messaging Rate By 50%

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "NEWS" @ 05:09 PM

http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2007/01/014588.htm

"It should go down, but from January 21st, Cingular Wireless will raise the text-messaging rate it charges customers without a monthly texting plan to 15 cents per message sent or received, an increase of 5 cents. "The rise comes two months after an identical move by Sprint Nextel Corp., which also raised the rate for pay-as-you-go texting from 10 cents to 15 cents per message," reports the IndyStar. "Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA each charge 10 cents per message sent or received without a texting plan."

Yikes, looks like it is time to hop on a text messaging plan if you have not done so already. If you are a Cingular customer using a Smartphone, there is no reason why you should not already have the MEdia Max 200 Bundle feature plan added to your account. The MEdia Max 200 Bundle includes unlimited MEdia Net, unlimited access to Cingular Video and 200 messages for only $19.99 a month! :)

Users Rate Smartphones Higher Than PDAs

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2161471/users-rate-smartphones-higher

"More users of smartphones reported that these devices are essential to their business than the users of PDAs or laptops, new research has claimed. However, the report from In-Stat http://www.in-stat.com, predicts that the popularity of smartphones does not necessarily mean that there will be automatic acceptance of the devices and widespread replacement of PDAs and laptops. "Wireless manufacturers have more work to do before converged phones start taking market share from other devices instead of just complementing their sales," said Bill Hughes, In-Stat analyst."

T-Mobile UK Expected to Launch Affordable Flat Rate Data Plan

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 04:30 PM

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=237970

"T-Mobile have been somewhat blazing-the-trail for Windows Mobile users of late, with their adoption of just about every HTC device under the sun (the Tornado being the unfortunate and notable omission), coupled with their impressive 'web-n-walk' and innovative 'FlexT' tariffs. ...With T-Mobile's current drive to recruit new customers, it looks like THEY aren't going to be April Fools, and a reworking of Web-n-Walk and FlexT is on the cards, to integrate the tariffs. All good I hear you say, but how does this shake up the UK Mobile Data market? Well, if our sources are to be believed, T-Mobile will announce - with some fanfare - a 7.50 per month flat rate data usage plan! Likely subject to a fairly relaxed 'acceptable usage plan' (1GB seems likely), the deal looks set to have Smart device users on other networks migrating in droves."

This is some good news if you're a T-Mo UK subscriber, or if you're able to switch your provider to be T-Mo. The 1GB limit is a pretty nice plus, I must say. The launch of flat rate data plans in the UK has been sorely missing for a while now.
