HTC Patent Shows Off New Slider Concept

Posted by Darius Wey in "NEWS" @ 09:00 AM

The concept of an integrated number keypad and QWERTY keyboard is neat, although I'm not sure if the design is a winner. The device seems a little long, but probably can't be much longer than existing Pocket PCs (or should I say, Windows Mobile Professional devices) with slide-out QWERTY keyboards. And the diagonal-sliding display? Let's hope it manages to stay securely in place even after months of use. Your thoughts on this one?

Samsungs i620 Slider Coming to Vodafone UK

Posted by Mike Temporale in "HARDWARE" @ 05:30 AM

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Samsung-i620-Arrives-at-Vodafone-UK-60232.shtml

Back at the end of May we showed you the new Samsung i620 Slider. There was a fair amount of mixed thoughts on it. Some of you didn't like the sliding keyboard, and some didn't like silver finish. Well, it looks like some of you got your wish. The i620 has appeared on the Vodafone UK web site and is listed as "coming soon". The picture on their site shows a black i620 - no silver for Vodafone UK!

Unfortunately, it's expected that this model will be tri-band only. However, it does have WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, and measures in at just 113mm x 59mm x 11.8mm and only weighs 95 grams. If Samsung can manage to get a Quad band version out, then I will add this to my must have device list. Ah, who am I kidding; I'll suffer with just a tri-band device.

Toshiba Slider G500 Preview and Photos

Posted by Kris Kumar in "ARTICLE" @ 09:30 PM

http://mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=3161&source=HOME

"Along with its new G900 Windows Mobile 6 device, Toshiba also announced the new G500 Windows Mobile 5 smartphone from 3GSM in Barcelona this week. This attractive 3G handset has solid features to match its solid feel, with connectivity options to please business users. Tri-band GSM and HSDPA connectivity are mated with Bluetooth and 802.11b/g WiFi, making Microsoft's Direct Push email solution quick and easy. Up to 10 days standby and 3 hours UMTS talk time will keep you going strong, and a 2.0 megapixel camera makes the G500 great for the weekends as well as for the office. The large 2.3" QVGA resolution TFT display makes usage simple, and fingerprint recognition keeps your data secure. The Toshiba G500 includes 64MB of on board memory, with miniSD memory expansion. From our hands-on with the device at 3GSM, we can tell you that the Toshiba G500 is a solid feeling handset, though the odd hinging of the soft keys makes them a little difficult to use."

MobileBurn.com has posted a preview, along with some nice photos, of the Toshiba slider Smartphone announced at the recent 3GSM. It looks like the official name for this Smartphone is G500. As stated earlier in the FCC post, it is running Windows Mobile 5 and is a 3G Tri-band GSM unit. Wish the specs were as good as the awesome styling. :-(

I dont have the exact specs at this time, but well add them once we know some more. Click on the pictures to see a larger image and dont forget to share your thoughts with us! I know that Im very interested to see how this device stacks up. :DUser submitted image User submitted image User submitted image User submitted image

Toshiba RG4-E01 Slider HSDPA Smartphone Cleared by FCC

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/09/toshiba-rg4-e01-hsdpa-smartphone-in-fcc/

"A little Friday present from the FCC: Toshiba's new RG4-E01 Smartphone (that's right, it doesn't look like we're talking about a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device), featuring HSDPA, a 65k color screen, 2 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth with A2DP. Look for this on Vodafone, probably later this weekend when 3GSM kicks off in Barcelona."

The FCC is offering us a glimpse of what kind of announcements to expect during the 3GSM Conference next week. I am happy to see new form-factors and new manufacturers, even though the slider design looks a bit chunky compared to the HTC Vox and it looks like this unit will be powered by Windows Mobile 5.0. The good news is that this unit is a 3G smart phone. To check out the complete list of documents published by the FCC, which includes the photos and user guide, click here.

OKWAP Slider Smartphone with Touch Screen

Posted by Mike Temporale in "HARDWARE" @ 08:30 AM

This is pretty wild stuff. OKWAP has added touch screen support to Windows Mobile Smartphone OS. The K728 is a slider style phone that measures 93.5mm x 46mm x 24.5mm and weights in at 107.8g. Inside that small footprint is a Samsung 400MHz CPU (S3C2442A), 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, Bluetooth 2.0, A2DP support, miniSD slot, a 2.0 Megapixel camera, and a tiny 176x220 touch screen. The phone is listed as a Tri-Band device, which means I don't think there's much chance of seeing on on this side of the pond anytime soon. Regardless, it's an interesting addition by OKWAP. I 'm excited to see what else they can do. In case you think the above picture is really a Pocket PC, you can find more pictures here and be sure to pay close attention to the screens. The K868 is a Pocket PC, but the K728 is a Smartphone - no question.
