Astraware's Summer Sale: 25% Off 25

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Events" @ 05:50 AM

http://www.astraware.com/promo/summer08/

"Summer's here and it's time for some fun! Whether you're on vacation, or just want something new to play, Astraware(R) has the solution - the Astraware Hot Summer Sale! Starting on 1st August, Astraware is offering 25 games each with at least 25% off the regular price. Several of the games are as low as $9.95 each! If you're looking for action games like Platypus or GTS World Racing, strategy titles like Westward or Tradewinds 2, word games like Bubble Babble, or favorite classics like Astraware Sudoku - they're all included with special prices for a limited time! The Hot Summer Sale only lasts until midnight on 17th August, so make sure you don't miss out."

Astraware's Summer Sale is now on. The blurb says it all - at least 25% off 25 games, and there are some hot (no pun intended) titles on offer like Bejeweled 2, Cubis, Zuma, and Chuzzle. Of course, if you're in the southern hemisphere, something about this sale just seems so wrong, but that's not going to stop you from pocketing a good deal now, will it? ;)

AT&T's New Video Share Service and WM6: Coming to Blackjack This Summer?

Posted by Rocco Augusto in "THOUGHT" @ 02:28 PM

http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/rumors/atts_new_video_share_service_a.html

"In World of Warcraft (yes, I play), whenever you gain a new level you often get a whole slew of new abilities - your avatar can do more than it could before. When that happens, the standard thing to yell is "Ding W00T!" Well folks, this summer I think the Samsung Blackjack will be calling out Ding W00T! When I loaded the hacked Windows Mobile 6 ROM on there, I noticed something very, very odd. There was a new setting and a hidden application that kept loading itself in the background no matter what I was able to do, and it was called "Video Share." So today Mobility site points us to an AT&T announcement that this summer they'll be rolling out a real-time video sharing service..."

Real-time video sharing? That sounds exciting! Almost as exciting as leveling up in World of Warcraft. ;) I wonder how AT&T is going to pull off this video sharing service? If they plan on making the videos out of the same shoddy Real Video codec that is used for their Cellular Video service, than I think I might have to pass on that one. While Cellular Video looks great on AT&T's feature phone lineup, the same cannot be said for their Windows Mobile devices which usually have screens resolutions that are a lot larger than size. :(

New Windows Mobile Device With Keyboard Due Out Summer 2005

Posted by Mike Temporale in "NEWS" @ 09:02 AM

http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5757.html

"Offering a glimpse of things to come, the German division of mobile network operator T-Mobile today unveiled the latest addition to its venerable line of Windows Mobile based communicators, the MDA IV. Following in the vein of its powerful predecessor, the MDA III, the MDA IV offers not only GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but also adds support for WCDMA-based 3G. A tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, the MDA IV features one less band than its quad-band predecessor, but more than compensates for the fact by becoming the very first UMTS compatible communicator based on the Windows Mobile platform. Furthermore, the MDA IV is also the first communicator to sport a VGA display with a resolution of 480 x 640 pixels, and will be powered by a 520 MHz Intel XScale processor."

Looks pretty sweet, doesn't it. What do you guys think?

Update: This may be a Pocket PC Phone Edition. All the information I've seen so far doesn't rule out either platform. :? Damn Microsoft and their confusing naming scheme.

Updated Again: I just removed my refernces to Moto, it's obvious this isn't a Motorola device. :)

Nextel i930 To Launch In Summer 2005?

Posted by Kris Kumar in "HARDWARE" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1748981,00.asp

"A slew of rumored phones, or phones announced earlier but still nowhere near the light of day, also showed up in Motorola's booth. ... And the i930 will be Nextel's first smartphone, a neat-looking flip Windows Mobile Smartphone that bridges iDEN and GSM networks for worldwide roaming and has both a camera and a Secure Digital memory expansion slot. Expect that one to appear late summer at the soonest."

User submitted image

Our reader Skiwhack has posted an interesting news story originating from the CES. According to the folks at PC Magazine, Motorola is showing off its iDEN/GSM combo Smartphone, the i930 which is slated for the Nextel networks. I know a lot of Nextel users are eagerly waiting for this Smartphone and ever since the Sprint-Nextel merger was announced, the possibility of the launch of this Smartphone had grown slim. If this news story is to be believed, Nextel users will be playing with the i930 Smartphone in the summer of 2005. I still can't understand, why is this phone being delayed. :? Do you think this Smartphone will get released or will it end up like the MPx100?

Let The 2004 Olympic Summer Games Begin!

Posted by Mike Temporale in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 12:00 PM

http://molympics.com/

OK, I have to confess. I'm an Olympic Games junkie. It doesn't matter to me if it's the summer or winter games. I enjoy watching them both. (Don't be surprised if I sleep in over the next couple weeks, because I've stayed up too late watching the games. )

Enter mOlympics. mOlympics is the creation of Russell Beattie, and it's kind of like a mobile blog, but for the Olympics. Basically the site takes a bunch of Olympic feeds and aggregates them into one easy view and mobile friendly site. Now you can stay informed where ever you happen to travel. Good Job Russ!

3G From AT&T Wireless This Summer

Posted by David McNamee in "NEWS" @ 08:14 PM

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=5339944

Reuters is reporting that AT&T Wireless is planning to launch 3G services in at least four markets as soon as July. AT&T Wireless is obligated to maked commercial 3G services available to satisfy an agreement with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo, a part-owner of AT&T Wireless.

The service will use W-CDMA, the same technology Cingular will be using for their 3G rollout. However, Cingular will not be prepared to offer 3G until 2006 or 2007. No word on how the Cingular acquisition of AT&T Wireless will affect the 3G rollout.
